Developer of Attachment Narrative Therapy and a family therapist of forty years, across autism, eating disorders, trauma and high-conflict couples.
Attachment Narrative Therapy (ANT) has evolved over the last 25 years as an attempt to integrate ideas from systemic family therapy, attachment theory and narrative therapy. The connecting theme is the centrality of emotions in family life and how these shape and are in turn shaped by the stories that family members develop and share. ANT is a multi-sensory approach and incorporates visual, actions based and embodied techniques. It also re-directs the focus of systemic therapy to an emphasis on communicational processes, including language which are shaped by attachment experiences. Various versions of ANT have been developed to fit with different clinical contexts, including eating disorders, high conflict families, neuro-diversity, relational and sexual problems. Concepts from neurobiology are being incorporated in all these applications to assist with unresolved states of trauma and loss that are frequently present.
The training courses are located within the Attachment Narrative Therapy (ANT) approach, which offers an integration of systemic, attachment and narrative ideas and techniques. The current courses cover eating disorders, couples and sexual dynamics, high conflict families, neurodiversity, and neurobiology and trauma. We aim to limit course numbers to ensure participants get maximum opportunity to work on their own material as well as case illustrations provided by the trainers. Our trainings offer opportunities to embed the theory and skills in practice.
