Who are the courses for?

Our courses are aimed at counsellors, psychotherapists, family and systemic practitioners and other professionals working with families, couples and individuals.

What is Attachment Narrative Therapy (ANT)?

ANT is an integrative approach that brings together attachment theory, systemic family therapy and narrative therapy, alongside current understanding of the neurobiology of trauma. It helps practitioners work with families, couples and individuals by exploring the attachment patterns, stories and relationship dynamics that shape how people relate to and comfort one another.

What does the training cover?

Our courses teach the ANT model in a practical, applied way. You will learn how to develop collaborative formulations, share them with families in plain everyday language, and use a set of practical activities, known as the Formats for Exploration, to work with attachment patterns, relationship dynamics and change.

What are the four phases of ANT?

ANT is broadly organised into four phases, which often overlap rather than run in a strict sequence:

  • Co-creating a secure base.
  • Exploring strengths and difficulties.
  • Contemplating and attempting change.
  • Maintaining changes, contemplating the future and ending therapy.

What are the “Formats for Exploration”?

These are the practical, visual and activity-based tools at the heart of ANT, used to explore and shift relationship patterns. They include the family attachment genogram, tracking problematic and positive sequences, sculpting relationships with objects, corrective and replicative intentions, and work on transitions, partings and separations.

Is ANT a fixed protocol?

No. ANT offers a tentative structure rather than a prescriptive programme, and is adapted to each family and clinical context. Therapy typically runs between 6 and 16 sessions, though it can be shorter or longer where needed.
